Information about Troon
Like Cairnryan, Troon is a small town with an important port. Ideally located just north of Ayr & Prestwick on the west coast of Scotland, the town has its own railway station with connections to the rest of the region and Britain at large, and is only three miles from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport. Glasgow city itself is only 30 miles away. The name "Troon" is derived from the Scots Gaelic "An tSrón", which means "the nose".

The town has some notable tourist sites, including the Fullarton grotto and stables, and Crosbie Castle, which dates back to 1344.
